BAU International Hospital Is Growing: A New 2,000 m² Building and New Departments
The growth of a hospital is often the clearest sign of the trust placed in it. At BAU International Hospital, which has served Batumi since 2016, that is exactly where we find ourselves today: our 220-bed hospital has long been running at around 90% occupancy. That intensity is the clearest proof of the region's need for us and its trust in us.
Rather than keep our patients waiting, we decided to grow so that we could offer them a better, faster and more comprehensive service. We are currently adding a 2,000 m² building to the hospital. This new structure is not just a physical expansion; it is an investment that will take our quality of service to the next level.
With the new building, we are raising our bed capacity from 220 to 260 and strengthening our existing units. The departments we are expanding are Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Neurosurgery, Neurology, General Surgery and Intensive Care. Each of these will be able to respond to rising patient numbers with far greater capacity.
In addition, we are taking an ambitious step in an area we have not served before: adding a new Chemotherapy department. Making oncological treatment accessible in the region means our patients can continue their treatment close to home, in a familiar environment — one of the most valuable gains for us.
As a civil engineer, I know very well that expanding a working hospital without interrupting its service is no easy task. Raising a new building while patients are being treated and doctors are at work demands meticulous planning. We manage this equation carefully, drawing on both my engineering experience and the expertise we have built in healthcare.
We plan to open the new departments in November 2026. Our goal is clear: to keep providing the people of Batumi and its surroundings with comprehensive, reliable healthcare at international standards. When our new building is complete, we will be doing exactly that, with far greater capacity.
